'''Iustin al II-lea''', după numele (latin complet . '''Flavius Iustinus lunior Iunior Augustus'''), poreclit ''Divinul'', a fost împărat al Imperiului Roman de Răsărit între anii 565 şi 578. Era nepotul lui [[Iustinian]] I, iar soţia sa, Sofia, era nepoata împărătesei [[Teodora]] (soţia lui [[Iustinian]]).
Moştenind de la unchiul său [[Iustinian]] I un imperiu extins, refuzul lui Iustin al II-lea de a-i plăti pe duşmanii potenţiali ai imperiului, aşa cum făcuse unchiul său, a dus la escaladarea războiului de-a lungul întinselor frontiere ale imperiului.
Fiind un creştin ortodox ferm, Iustin al II-lea a încercat să elimine prăpastia tot mai mare dintre Calcedonieni şi non-Calcedonieni.

Iustin s-a născut în anul 520, fiind fiul Vigilantiei, sora împărătului [[Iustinian]] I. În ultimele zile ale lui [[Iustinian]], Iustin a avut ca rival la succesiunea tronului imperial pe un alt Iustin, fiul vărului lui Iustinian, Germanus.
Justin was born about the year 520, the son of Vigilantia, the sister of Justinian I. A contemporary, and a rival for Justinian's throne in his last days, was another Justin, the son of Justinian's cousin Germanus. In 552, Justinian had named Justin, son of Vigilantia, to the office of ''cura palatti'' in which he was in charge of daily affairs of the palace, whereas Justin, the son of Germanus, was the Master of the Soldiers on duty in Illyricum on the Danube frontier. This set the stage for the transfer of power upon Justinian's death.
