Trisagion vine din grecescul tris- ("trei") şi hagios ("sfânt"). Se pronunţă "tree-sah-yon" în greaca liturgică. La propriu, trisagion înseamnă "sfânt de trei ori".

Rugăciunea Trisagion-ului este o rugăciune veche cu care încep toate slujbele din Ciclul zilnic. De asemenea sunt, de obicei, folosite în deschiderea rugăciunilor individuale.

Împărate Ceresc, Mângâietorule, Duhul Adevărului, Care pretutindenea eşti şi toate le-mplineşti, Vistierul bunătăţilor şi Dătătorule de viaţă: Vino, şi Te sălăşluieşte intru noi, şi ne curăţeşte de toată întinăciunea, şi mântuieşte sufletele noastre, Bunule.
