==Istoric==
Versions of the Scriptures in Latin were used as early as the second century, although the Church then in the West was largely Greek. References to these early Latin texts are found in the works of [[Ciprian al Cartaginei]] and [[Tertulian]]. These Old Latin translations, however, were considered to be crudely done and "provincial"; that is, not authentic.
Încă din secolul al II-lea d.Hr. au fost folosite versiuni ale [[Sfânta Scriptură|Sfintei Scripturi]], deşi Biserica timpurie folosea îndeosebi limba greacă, chiar şi în Occident. Trimiteri la aceste texte latine timpurii se găsesc în lucrările Sf. [[Ciprian al Cartaginei]] şi ale lui [[Tertulian]].
