Macedonianism
Macedonianismul este o erezie anti-trinitară susținută de unii creștini în secolele III-IV d.Hr., numiți și Pnevmatomahi (adică „luptători împotriva Duhului Sfânt”), și care și-a primit numele după Macedonie, care a fost patriarh de Constantinopol în secolul al IV-lea.
Învățătura pnevmatomahă
Macedonie și cei care îi susțineau ideile erau semi-arieni, and taught that though the Son was eternal, He was not of one essence (Latin: consubstanciales, Greek: homoousios) with the Dumnezeu Tatăl but of like essence (Greek: homoiousios) with the Father. They also taught that the Holy Spirit was not eternal and consubstantial with the Father and the Son but a creation of the Father and an action of the Son. Thus, the Macedonians denied that the Holy Spirit was a hypostasis, or person, of the Holy Trinity.
Opoziția
Mulți Sfinți Părinți au scris contra mecedonianismului, între care teologi importanți precum Atanasie cel Mare, Vasile cel Mare, Grigorie de Nyssa și Grigorie Teologul. Macedonianismul a fost condamnat la Sinodul II Ecumenic (Constantinopol, 381), care a și adăugat câteva fraze Crezului:
"Καὶ εἰς τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον, τὸ κύριον, (καὶ) τὸ ζωοποιόν, τὸ ἐκ τοῦ πατρὸς ἐκπορευόμενον, τὸ σὺν πατρὶ καὶ υἱῷ συμπροσκυνούμενον καὶ συνδοξαζόμενον, τὸ λαλῆσαν διὰ τῶν προφητῶν."
Anume:
"Şi întru unul Duhul Sfânt, Domnul de viaţă făcătorul,
Carele din Tatăl purcede,
Cela ce împreună cu Tatăl şi cu Fiul este închinat şi slăvit,
Care a grăit prin prooroci."
