Teologia sa
The Puncul central point of Irenaeus' theology is the unity of al teologiei lui Irineu este unitatea lui GodDumnezeu, in opposition to the Gnostics' division of God into în opoziţie cu divizarea gnostică a number of divine lui Dumnezeu în câţiva "Aeonseoni", and their distinction between the divini şi cu deosebirea dintre "High Godzeu puternic" and the wicked şi netrebnicul "Demiurgedemiurg" who created the worldcare a creat lumea. Irenaeus uses the Irineu foloseşteteologia Logos theology he inherited from St. ului pe care a moştenit-o de la Sfântul Justin MartyrIustin ucenicul, but prefers to speak of the Son and the Spirit as the dar preferă să vorbească despre Fiu şi Duhul Sfânt ca fiind "hands of Godmâinile lui Dumnezeu," using figures for the Trinity which antedate the more precise language of the folosind persoane ale Sfintei Treimi care premerg limbajului mult mai precis al Cappadocianscapadocienilor. ChristPentru el, for himHristos este Tatăl invizibil care s-a revelat, is the invisible Father made visibles-a făcut vizibil.
His emphasis on the unity of God is reflected in his corresponding emphasis on the unity of salvation historyAccentuarea sa asupra unităţii lui Dumnezeu este reflectată în accentuarea corespunzătoare a unităţii istoriei mântuirii. Irenaeus repeatedly insists that God created the world and has been overseeing it ever sinceIrineu insistă în mod repetat asupra faptului că Dumnezeu a creat lumea şi o supraveghează de atunci. Everything that has happened is part of his plan for humanityTot ceea ce s-a întâmplat este parte din planul său privind umanitatea. The essence of this Esenţa acestui plan is maturationeste maturizarea: Irenaeus believes that humanity was created immature, and God intended his creatures to take time to grow into his likenessIrineu crede că umanitatea a fost creată imatură iar Dumnezeu le-a creaţiilor sale timp să crească în asemănarea cu El. ThusAstfel, Adam and Eveşi Eva were created as childrenau fost creaţi copii. Their FallCăderea was thus not lor a fost astfel nu o rebeliune în adevăratul sens al cuvântului ci o zgândărire copilîrească, o dorinţă de a fullcreşte înainte să-blown rebellion but a childish spat, i vină timpul acestei creşteri ţi o dorinţă de a desire to grow up before their time and have everything avea totul nowacum.
Everything that has happened since has therefore been directed by God to help humanity overcome this and grow upTot ceea ce s-a întâmplat de atunci încolo a fost, în consecinţă, sub îndrumarea lui Dumnezeu care ajută omenirea să depăşească aceasta şi să crească. În acelaşi fel, where human beings are forced to make moral decisions moartea şi suferinţa apar ca fiind demonice, dar fără ele nu vom putea niciodată să- only in this way can they matureL cunoaştem pe Dumnezeu. Irenaeus likens death to the whale that swallowed Apogeul istoriei mântuirii este Hristos. Irineu crede că Hristos oricum ar fi fost trimis, chiar dacă lumea nu ar fi păcătuit niciodată; dar faptul că lumea a căzut în păcat Îl face să fie Mântuitorul. Irineu îl vede pe Hristos ca Noul Adam, care desface în mod sistematic tot ceea ce Adam a făcut: it was only in the depths of the whale's belly that Jonah could turn to God and do his willastfel, unde Adam a fost neascultător privind fructele copacului, Hristos a fost ascultător chiar până la moartea pe lemnul copacului.
The high point in salvation history is Jesus Christ. Irenaeus believes that Christ would always have been sent, even if humanity had never sinned; but the fact that they did sin determines his role as a saviour. He sees Christ as the new AdamAstfel, who systematically undoes what Adam did: thusIrineu crede că mântuirea noastră vine, where Adam was disobedient about the fruit of a treeîn principiu, Christ was obedient even to death on the wood of a treeprin întruparea lui Dumnezeu în om. Irenaeus is the first to draw comparisons between Eve and the El consideră că pedeapsa pentru Theotokospăcat, contrasting the faithlessness of the former with the faithfulness of the lattereste moartea şi coruperea. In addition to reversing the wrongs done by AdamÎn schimb, Irenaeus thinks of Christ as "recapitulating" or "summing up" human life. This means that Christ goes through every stage of human life, from infancy to old ageDumnezeu este nemuritor şi nestricăcios iar pur şi simplu prin unirea cu firea umană în Hristos El ne transmite aceste calităţi: ele se împrăştie, and simply by living itaşa cum sunt, sanctifies it with his divinityca o infecţie benignă. Irenaeus is therefore forced to argue that Christ did not die until he was quite old! Irenaeus thus thinks that our salvation comes aboutAşadar, essentially, through the incarnation of God as man. He characterises the penalty for Irineu înţelege sinispăşire as death and corruption. God, however, is immortal and incorruptible, and simply by becoming united to human nature in Christ he conveys those qualities to us: they spread, as it were, like a benign infection. Irenaeus therefore understands the lui Hristos ca având loc prin atonementîntrupare of Christ as happening through his a Sa mai degrabă decât prin incarnation rather than his crucifixioncrucificarea Sa, although the latter is an integral part of the formercu toate că ultima este parte componentă din prima.
