Sfântul, slăvitul şi mult lăudatul Apostol Pudens (sau Poudes, Pudenţiu) din Cei Şaptezeci a fost chemat de Iisus Hristos la propovăduirea veştilor bune din Evanghelie. Prăznuirea sa se face în 14 sau 15 aprilie dar el este pomenit şi în 4 ianuarie împreună cu Cei Şaptezeci.

Viaţa

Sfântul Pudens a fost un propovăduitor de seamă al Evangheliei dar şi un membru marcant al Senatului Roman. Sfântul i-a luat în casa sa pe Sfinţii Apostoli Petru şi Pavel când i-a întâlnit în Roma. Când apostolii au poposit în casa sa, creştinii din împrejurimi s-au adunat acolo pentru a-i asculta pe apostoli. Astefl, casa Sfântului Pavel a fost transformată în Biserică sub numele de "Pastorum."

În Sfânta Scriptură el este menţionat în 2 Timotei 4:21: "Sileşte-te să vii mai înainte de începutul iernii. Te îmbrăţişează Eubul şi Pudenţiu şi Linos şi Claudia şi fraţii toţi.."

Sfântul Pudens şi-a dat viaţa ca un mucenic sub Împăratul Nero.
