The holy, glorious, all-laudable Apostolul Nicanor of the Şaptezeci was among the first diaconi in the Church along with Ştefan, Filip, Parmena, Prohor, Timon and Nicholas. Although they died at various times and in various places, they are commemorated together on 28 iulie. Sf. Nicanor is also commemorated on 4 ianuarie with the Synaxis of the 70 Holy Apostles.

In the Faptele Apostolilor (6:1-6) it is said that the twelve Apostoli chose seven men full of the Duhul Sfânt and wisdom, and appointed them to serve as deacons.

Although Sf. Nicanor suffered on the same day that the holy Întâiul-mucenic Ştefan (27 decembrie) and many other Christians were killed by stoning, he is commemorated on 28 decembrie.

You were holy deacons and eye-witnesses of the Word,

And chosen vessel of the faith,

O glorious Nicanor, Prochorus, Parmenas and Timon.

Therefore today we celebrate your sacred memory,
