Apostolul Irodian

Sfântul, slăvitul şi mult lăudatul Apostol Irodian (numit şi Herodion sau Rodion) se numără printre Cei Şaptezeci de Apostoli. El a fost rudă cu Sfântul Apostol Pavel (Romani 16:11) şi episcop în Neoparţia, unde a suferit mult din cauza evreilor. După ce l-au bătut, lapidat şi înjunghiat, l-au lăsat să moară, dar Sfântul Irodian s-a ridicat şi a continuat să îi ajute pe Apostoli.

El a fost decapitat odată cu Apostolul Olimp în Roma pe când îl ajutau pe Sfântul Apostol Patru în aceeaşi zi în care a fost crucificat şi Sfântul Apostol Petru. Prăznuirea lui se face în 4 ianuarie împreună cu Cei Şaptezeci, în 8 aprilie şi în 10 noiembrie.

Holy Apostles, Erastus, Olympas, Herodian, Sosipater, Quartus and Tertius,

entreat the merciful God,

to grant our souls forgiveness of transgressions.

Illumined by divine light, O holy apostles,

you wisely destroyed the works of idolatry.

When you caught all the pagans you brought them to the Master

and taught them to glorify the Trinity.

Let us praise in hymns the six–fold choir of Apostles:

Herodion and Agabus,

Rufus, Asyncritus, Phlegon and holy Hermes.

They ever entreat the Trinity for our souls!

Condac (Glasul 2)

You became the disciples of Christ

And all-holy Apostles,

O glorious Herodion, Agabus and Rufus,

Asyncritus, Phlegon and Hermes.

Ever entreat the Lord

To grant forgiveness of transgressions

To us who sing your praises.

Condac (Glasul 4)

Like stars, O holy Apostles,

You illumine the way of the faithful with the light of the Holy Spirit.

You dispel the darkness of error as you gaze on God the Word!
